I read through my application one last time and just clicked submit to finalize my trip proposal. I'm super excited thinking about all the possibilities and adventures that await this summer. I was also really happy to find out that Baxter State Park has a volunteer program that we will be able to work with during our time there. Keep your fingers crossed, I want to win this!

Last night, as our family gathered around a fire in our back yard, Travis shared the news of his application for the Avi Scholarship. I saw a sparkle in Travis's eye and heard the happiness in his voice as he spoke about how wonderful it would be to receive it! Travis's love of climbing began with an Earth Treks class many years ago. The climbing and the climbing community has enriched his life in so many ways. Before Travis was old enough to drive himself to Earth Treks or an outdoor climbing location I would chauffeur him and a climbing buddy to their spot. I was always in awe of the physical challenges of climbing but I was also always so impressed by the support and encouragement the climbers offered each other, and not just on the wall, but in their daily lives. Travis's love of climbing has taken him to locations within and outside of the United State. He has entered competitions, had a rock climbing wall put into his school, and even proposed to his lovely wife, Hilary, by having her climb a wall that had her engagement ring attached at the top and when she descended he met her on bent knee and asked her to marry him! As a Mom it was not always easy to see him off on some of these adventures, but I knew how much he loved to climb, how happy he was to meet new people and to experience a new location. Travis continues to share his enthusiasm for climbing and love of being outdoors with everyone. His upbeat personality and encouraging demeanor are contagious. Travis once said that if they say a picture is worth a thousand words than an experience is worth a thousand pictures. I hope he gets this experience!

Good luck Travis! We hope you win this scholarship and can go on your adventure. I was excited to climb a rock wall on a cruise ship...so can't imagine the thrill of doing this in reality.

Travis, I've only known you for a short time, but in that space, it is clear to me that you are a man of integrity and character, well loved and respected by family and friends. Not only would it benefit you personally, but from what I've seen, you would expand this gift to teach and touch others. If this scholarship is awarded to you, it is clear to me that at the very least, your two young sons and your students would be blessed also. You seem to be a man who loves what he does and does what he loves. I look forward to seeing how this experience not only benefits your mind and body, but your spirit as well. I am confident that the opportunity afforded by this scholarship would translate exponentially.

Good luck Travis! I'm glad to hear you are just as crazy about climbing as you were on those trips to Shenandoah growing up.
